Understand Kiosk Behavior

The kiosk is an unattended visit scanner. Unlike the normal Operator scanner, a supported customer QR code immediately starts a regular visit operation; there is no separate confirmation button.

The kiosk uses the front camera and waits for a QR code. A customer should hold the QR code steady inside the camera area until the screen changes.

When the kiosk recognizes a supported customer phone QR code, it:

  1. records one regular visit;
  2. requests the customer’s updated visit progress;
  3. shows the customer’s name, progress, and whether a free wash is available;
  4. returns to scanning after about five seconds.

A confirmation beep may play, but the visible result is authoritative. Browser sound policies can prevent the beep.

After a successful scan, the same phone is silently ignored for 60 seconds on that running page. The screen may remain in the ready state without a duplicate message.

This is a short device-side guard, not a permanent fraud or duplication control. Reloading the kiosk resets it. Do not refresh the page to bypass the waiting period.

A reward QR does not redeem a reward at the kiosk. It shows an informational message directing the customer to an operator and returns to scanning after about five seconds.

The kiosk also does not redeem a free wash. It only reports availability after a successful customer visit. Complete reward and free-visit actions in the Operator Workspace.

An unsupported QR displays an informational message and returns to scanning after about five seconds. Ask the customer to open the current LoyaltyBoss customer QR, or use the Operator workspace to enter the required value manually.

When the device loses network access, an offline banner appears but the camera can remain visible and active. The kiosk does not queue the scan or retry it automatically. Restore the connection and follow Troubleshoot a Kiosk before scanning again.
